how it works
please be patient. we are a home breeder not a mass producer of pups
Our small and dedicated family is always working for your pup to be as healthy and well adjusted as possible. This is number one with us! We spend a lot of time focused on working with every pup and it leaves little time for other things.
First : we post photos when the pups are no less than 4 weeks old on the "available puppies page"
Second : we then start to go through the emails received for people who are ready to get a pup in that time frame. We no longer keep a list, as peoples lives change and we spend hours chasing ghosts.
( Please be sure ALL family members are on board before emailing and be sure your calendar is clear of vacations or other events that would not allow your pup to attend or travel with you)
Third : we will text you to schedule a phone conversation and start the matching process. An application and contract will be sent and must be returned before scheduling a visit.
From there once the application and contract are returned......
***We allow visits at 6 weeks once a pup has been vaccinated, cleared by the vet for eye, heart, knee and any other issue, and matched to your family***
SCHEDULED VISITS ONLY
This is my home and we do not except random drop ins. Please respect this.
At the six week visit, we discuss all concerns and if you feel the pup is a good match for you. At this time you can deny or refuse if it is not what you hoped for.
During the visit we ask for a deposit and then discuss the best time for pick up and how to prepare for your new baby.
We will then set up the pick up date and time. When you come to get your baby we will have a blanket and several toys for him/her that will smell like the mom and the litter mates. This makes the transition easier. We also give you some of the food they have been eating and a leash and collar with a bell.
Standard practice for a pup to go home is 8 weeks of age or after.
It is also the LAW in MA.
We help you with any info as to where we have found thing along the way so you can get the best price. We do not have an Amazon store where we make money off you.
We would rather help you get the best deal available.
WE WILL NEVER ASK FOR A DEPOSIT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN YOUR PUP
WE ALSO DO NOT TAKE DEPOSITS OVER THE PHONE OR THROUGH ANY ONLINE PAYMENT METHOD DUE TO TOO MANY SCAMS
Any breeder not allowing visits is hiding something.
Vets do not decide when pups go home, the breeder does.
The vet just lets us know if there is a medical concern. Any breeder letting the vet decide has little to no experience in what they are doing or using that as an excuse to not let you visit.
Sometimes though rare, a breeders will hold back a pup or litter due to a developmental or medical issue, but you should still be able to visit your pup before deposit or purchase.
(The days of sitting on the floor to let the pup pick you is usually only found with novice, desperate, ignorant and reckless breeders as it exposes the entire litter to potential illness from multiple sources of off site handling. This is an out dated practice still alive and well in pet stores and unethical sellers. The history of sick dogs and owners heart break with this practice is posted all over the internet.)
Our Process:
1) We will post photos of pups not reserved on the "Available Puppies" page
I will be posting photos for you to see the available pups and if you have one you like please email me. Remember to describe the pup and send your phone number and some info about you, your family, your home and lifestyle.
2) We call OR TEXT you after reading your email. only when we have a suitable match
Please email us your lifestyle and phone number. If you meet our necessary requirements we consider you for a puppy application. We use certain questions on our application to match you with the right pup. Each placement is different and unique. Personality and temperament should match the placement. We focus on finding the perfect fit, not just the quickest fit.
*Please note we only give applications through email when we have matched a family to a pup. We do not have them available on line at all times*
Applications are sent to those with whom we have spoken with.
3) We send you an application
Once we have a completed application returned and you are matched with a puppy or a choice of puppies that fit your lifestyle, we start your Brookside journey.
You will see photos and sometimes video of the proposed pup or pups. Here we answer your questions and concerns and address ours as well. A good idea is to write down your questions ahead of time so that nothing is forgotten!
We discuss the vet check and timing of shots and micro-chipping. We will also discuss visits.
I like everyone to visit before pick up.(around 6 weeks) We prefer in person but if you are flying to get your baby we can arrange a zoom meeting.
If I tell you that you are in my NOTEBOOK you are golden!
4) Deposits will be collected at first visit
Although we stopped taking deposits during Covid, we are now reinstating the non-refundable deposit. So many hours are put into each pup and to secure your baby we ask you show us a good faith effort by placing a deposit on your baby at the 6 week visit in person NEVER ONLINE OR OVER THE PHONE
The fee is non refundable no matter the circumstance and is not transferable. This covers the cost of my time answering questions, taking photos, videos and countless texts and phone conversations, preparing your baby for your unique life while you get ready to bring home your baby and turning away others.
Brookside Cavalier receives numerous emails, texts, messages, calls, and social media inquires each day with questions about the availability of any Cavalier King Charles puppy for sale. We have spend endless hours answering questions, sending pictures, emailing questionnaires & following up with people who are only window shopping, or comparison shopping. To distinguish who is actually serious about wanting one of our cavalier puppies, we require a deposit to be placed when we do our 6 week visit. ABSOLUTELY NO visitors will be allowed to proceed without deposit. Visits are scheduled just before your pup is about 6 weeks of age.
Deposits will be applied to total cost.
5) You get updated photos and videos
As often as we can manage! They are all taken in our home which you will see when you visit. We try to capture the expression and coloring and all the markings for you to view. The videos we are able to do show the pups in motion and enjoying siblings and our older dogs. Zoom meetings are also an option prior to pick up if in home visits are not possible. Deposits will be discussed on the meeting if you prefer this method.
6) Visits and pickups will be scheduled
We only schedule visits to our home once a pup has been reserved for you. Once you confirm you want the pup we secure it with a non-refundable deposit.
At that visit we will discuss the pick up at 8-10 weeks of age. (Very occasionally we keep pups a bit longer if we are keeping one for our self.)
When you arrive you will be visiting Mom & Dad if they are still at our home, and your puppy. You will be able to see other litter mates if they are still with us and have not already gone to their home. We do not allow anyone to handle pups that are not reserved for them. That being said you can see the litter mates but not actually touch them.
Once part of our family you will have 24/7 access to me personally for the lifetime of your pet. Many of you become great friends and even more like family forever.

If you are not feeling well when you are scheduled to pick up, we can set up a no contact pick up or arrange a no contact delivery as well as offer a rescheduled pick up day and time

We DO NOT allow visits to people who "might be buying" or "just looking" we reserve this haphazard way of placement to the mills, brokers and pet stores who are notorious for sick dogs due to this reckless way of selling. Occasionally we offer coffee meetups and family gatherings for you to meet our ADULTS no puppies will be available to see.
